To celebrate, we invite you to join us for a special screening of two shorts and one film from Quebec, which were all presented at Cinemania in November 2023. An event presented in partnership with Cinemania, the New Orleans Film Society, and the Historic BK House & Gardens.

In this film essay by Quebecois director Alexa-Jeanne Dubé, an adaptation of the eponymous play by playwright Suzie Bastien, eight sixteen-year-old girls deliver eloquent monologues about their dreams and desires, as well as their fear of becoming adults. Sucré Seize brilliantly deconstructs the illusion of a candy-coated adolescence to reveal, with great theatricality, the sometimes harsh realities that lie beneath.

Angie, a bigorexic bodybuilder at the end of her career, discovers an unusual growth in her back. While consulting the doctor's office, she is told that she will have to cut her lifestyle habits in order not to deteriorate her case. Angie takes a disturbing look at body obsession, while exploring narcissism and insatiability.

In a run-down neighborhood, Zoe and her little brother Theo are left to fend for themselves. A young adolescent, Zoe is a ball of anger haunted by an intimate terror. Theo, still a child, flees reality into a fantastical world. During a scorching summer day, the two children will have to burst the abscess of their relationship so as not to lose each other.
