Each year, our team comes together to select a new theme for our new season (September through May). In choosing a theme, our goal is to spotlight a specific facet of Louisiana’s heritage cultures through original exhibitions, publications, albums, and films. Last year, we were thrilled to explore Louisiana’s musical heritage through Musique(s), a contemporary anthology of Louisiana music in French and Creole produced with the support of the Library of Congress.

This year, as the country prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence (America’s 250), we want to examine how Louisiana’s unique cultures influenced America’s story. Established as an outpost, Louisiana is too often viewed as a peripheral space — a passenger to the broader forces that shaped this country. Yet what if our culture contained the multitudes of America — and what if Louisiana somehow was the very embodiment of e pluribus unum? This year, up and down the Mississippi River, and looking back to the 18th century and forward to now, we want to celebrate the culture(s) of the United States — and in doing so, we want to celebrate Louisiana.

We are thrilled to present L’Amérique selon la Louisiane: Louisiana’s America. A theme for our new season — a theme for the ages.

LE PROGRAMME!

WE KNOW IT ALL, BUT
WE CAN’T TELL IT ALL!

2 EXHIBITIONS

December-March 2026: Exhibition 1
April-September 2026: Exhibition 2

Our exhibitions will take place in our new space at 602 Toulouse St — set to reopen its doors in November 2025. While we can’t tell you too much for now, we can tell you that our space is going to look amazing (check out our renderings here). Oh, and also, our first exhibition will be presented with the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Unexplored paintings, letters, newspaper articles, and pamphlets: you are going to love it.

3 BOOKS

December 2025: Exhibition Catalog 1 is released
February 2025: Book 1 is released
April 2026: Exhibition Catalog 2 is released
June 2026: Box set (with all three books) is released!

This year, we are going to publish three books (yes, three!). We will edit and publish two exhibition catalogs (because we love it), and we will also publish an hors-série resulting from a collaboration with Quebec. All books will be included in a special limited series box set to be released at the end of our season.

1 FILM

December 2025: Main Photography (New Orleans)
Spring 2026: Film enters festival circuit

Over the summer, we finalized the script of our new narrative short. We cannot wait to film (again!) in New Orleans in November and December 2025. Get your tissues ready, because it’s going to be a beautiful — and heartbreaking — one. That’s all we can tell you for now.

1 SYMPOSIUM

March 2026

We love research — and history — and we cannot wait to invite y’all to our first-ever one-day symposium to reflect upon our theme for this year with high-profile scholars, community members, and artists.

This year, we will also keep working on the promotion of our album Musique(s), and we will also offer various workshops (in French, English, and Creole) through our newly-created L’Académie, presented in partnership with L’Union Française. We will also host three Fulbright scholars, and we will invite y’all to follow the progress of our Le Lab laureates. A year for the ages!
